Early on the morning on November 19, 2024, angels from heaven weredispatched to recieve Marion L. Harris to eternal rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. She peacefully reunited with her loving husband of 60 years, William N. Harris, Sr., and her parents; Irvin and Rebecca Wolfrey-Riddick of Gates County, NC.Mother Marion was born January 12, 1926, in Drum Hill, NC (Gates County). She was baptized at New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church, Corapeake, NC in 1938. She attended and graduated from T.S. Cooper School in Sunbury, NC. Over time, she relocated to Portsmouth,Va where she married the late William N. Harris Sr. and fromtheir union they were blessed with four children:Williams Jr., Pearlie, Joyce and Marion.Our mother’s life was exemplified by her kind meek and mildserving spirit.She was a gifted by the Holy Spirit with the love for serving ALL,especially seniors.For that reason, she began taking courses and became a Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant whereby applying heracquired skills at Norfolk’s Lake Taylor City Hospital until her retirement.Her tender heart, soul and mind were totally dedicated to her Lord, family,church, and community.She was active in the women’sequal rights political rally in Washington, DC whereby her activism was captured in an iconic over-sized poster displayed in the National Museum of African AmericanHistory and Culture, as well as in varies types of publications and books.Mother Harris Christian fellowship continued after she moved to Portsmouth where she later joined Twine Memorial Holiness Temple, March 3, 1950. Through the years, she was a praying and faithful servant of God.She served in various capacities of the churchsuch as Mother of the Church,the Mother’s Board of the Tidewater District Union, Nurses Aide and Gospel Choir until her health declined. Her four childrenand many of her grandchildren traditionally attend Twine Memorial to celebrateeach Mother’s Day with her.Additionally, her family annually accompanied her to NC to her home church, New Middle Swamp Baptist every 4th Sunday in August for their Homecoming Family & Friend Day service and celebration, Mother served at Twine Memorial under the late Bishop Charles Atlas, the late Bishop Charles Twine, the late Bishop Thomas Talley and under the current Pastor, Elder Michael Porter. Pastor Porter was an integral part of her life , She loved Elder Porter and cherished his leadership and dedication to his congregation. Our family is profoundly grateful and thank God for Deacon Valerie Wesson. Her unyielding dedication , time and love extended to our mother and family will forever be a part of our memories.Mother was truly blessed to have had a loving family that loved, cared, and pampered her around the clock. As her children often said …. “It was our pleasure to take care of our mom.” Our motto has always been, If one mom could take care of four children, four children could surely take care of one mom.” Marion was predeceased by her brothers and their wives: Vernon Riddick, (Dorothy), Shellie Riddick (Alice), Curtis Riddick (Clarine), Irvin Riddick Sr., (Clarine), Joseph Riddick (Dorothy), George Riddick(Doris) and James Riddick(Elaine) and one, Kevin Harris. She leaves to cherish , her son William Harris Jr,: her beloved daughters Pearlie Carrington, Joyce Lee (Exum Jr) Marion Smith,( Ray Sr.).Nine grandchildren, twenty-four; great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren,; two sister n laws, and two daughter n laws, and a blessing of many many nieces, nephews,cousins and friend.” Always in our hearts”
