Mable Beatrice Hobbs-Lewis, daughter of the late Charlie and Ruth P. Hobbs, was born on May 4, 1927 in Gilmerton (Norfolk County), which is now Chesapeake, VA. Mable attended Gilmerton Elementary School and Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in Portsmouth, VA. In April 1956, she graduated from Crestwood High School Practical Nursing Class with honors.
Mable has a BAC (Born-Again Christian) degree. She was a former member of First Baptist Church, Gilmerton. Her brother, as a little toddler, called her Mae Beki, and Bibby. Her other name of endearment was “Sunshine.” Those who she cared for at the hospital, convalescent homes and private homes called her “Sunshine” because when she came to work, she brought the sun with her. Even strangers she met on the street, referred to her as “Sunshine.” She has a smile that could brighten up anyone’s day.
She was dedicated and faithful to her family and friends. She had a quality that people just couldn’t help but notice and admire. Mable was never to busy to talk to or listen to and even lend a helping hand. She would always find time to share her gifts and reach out to others.
