Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, FROM 2:00PM – 7:00PM at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019, 12 Noon, at Union Baptist Missionary Church, 5414 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk, VA.

 

Interment will immediately follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.

Lucille Roberts Freeman was born on December 9, 1939 to Thomas E. Roberts Sr. and Lucille Newton Roberts in Norfolk County Virginia. She was the 13th child out of 13 children. She transitioned quietly and peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2019. Lucille is preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings. She was baptized at an early age and attended Union Baptist Missionary Church with her family. Singing was her passion. She loved playing the piano and singing in the choir and singing with the Swimpson Singers, who sang beautifully at many of the churches in this area.

She attended Norfolk County High School & Crestwood High School.   She was a Majorette in the Marching Band. She always thought of herself as a performing artist and enjoyed performing whenever she got the chance.

She worked as a Nurse’s Assistant at Maryview Hospital and at a Cable company in Merrillville IN as a Technical Support person. At home her specialty was cooking chicken wings, cranberry chicken, and yock a mein noodles. She was a great entertainer and really loved her family and friends.  Lucille spent most of her adult life out of this area travelling all over the United States with her husband.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband Charles G. Freeman Jr., 2 daughters: Crystal Freeman, and Kimberly Freeman; 3 sons: Robert Darrell Freeman, Byron Freeman, and Charles Kevin Freeman,; 5 grandchildren: Jasmine Freeman, Lauren Freeman, Rachel Freeman, Darrell Byron Freeman, and Byron Freeman Jr.; 1 daughter-in-law, Tanya Freeman; 2 sisters: Mae Lessie Roberts, and Evelyn Roberts Hunter; 4 brothers-in-law: Oliver Hunter, Chester Freeman, Larry Freeman, and Geno Freeman; 7 sisters-in-law: Margret, Evelyn, Eleanor, Shirley, Luebell, Emma, and Annie; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; a special dear friend, Lavern Godfrey; and many Friends like you.
