Lisa Diane Huiett answered the Master’s call and slipped away to join her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, March 10, 2023, at Norfolk Sentara Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia on October 19, 1961, she was the youngest of four children born to the union of the late Welton and Eleanor Crocker Hasket. Lisa was educated in the Portsmouth Public Schools system and was affectionately called “Peachy Face” by some of her dear friends.
Lisa accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Ebenezer Baptist Church. She had a melodious singing voice and joined the Inspirational Gospel Choir at the church under the direction of Mr. Prince Wallace. She was also a member of “The Philharmonics” directed by Dr. Peggy Britt. She loved to sing and often could be heard throughout the day, whether at home or work, singing to the glory of God.
Lisa had a passion for cooking and was an excellent cook. Family, friends, and strangers were the beneficiaries of her cooking skills. She was gainfully employed by Norfolk Naval Hospital doing what she loved-cooking. She also worked as a sexton for Monumental Methodist Church in Portsmouth.
Lisa had a zest for life and never met a stranger. When others came in contact with Lisa, she left them with a lasting impression. She lived her life the way that she wanted to and found joy in doing so. She had a way of making you laugh without trying to be comical. She had an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile. She was generous with the heart of a giant at the height of 5’2”. In her spare time, she was dedicated to cooking for the homeless. Lisa loved the Lord, her heartbeats, Ashia and Jarmaine, her entire family, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and many friends. Jarmaine recalled that he and his mother were like “two peas in a pod,” always together, even accompanying and joining in to assist her at work.
Lisa leaves to cherish her memory two beloved children, Ashia (Antjuan) Marshall and Jarmaine Huiett, Portsmouth, VA; four extended children; three sons, James Slaughter, Travis Curry, and Dr. Keith Curry, and one extended daughter, Latoya Curry; one brother, Welton (Gloria) Hasket, Jr., Vallejo, CA; two sisters, Gloria (Rev. Dr. George) Spicer, Chesapeake, VA; Jean Hasket, Portsmouth, VA; three precious grandchildren, Samuel Miles, Jr, MyAsia Watson, and Nyeemah Marshall; two loving great-grandchildren; Heaven Miles and Luna Miles; one uncle, Clifton ( Eunice) Crocker, and two aunts, Helen Hines and Josie Porter. Also, honoring her memory are: her godmother, Edith Harris; three god sisters, Juanita Jones, Imogene Harris, and Cynthia Harris; and one cousin who was more like a sister, Angela Crosby. Remembering her with love are: special friends, Tracy Harris, Lois Fagan, Kenneth Tyler, Wanda Griffin, Pamela Sawyer, Mary Thomas, Sharon Elliott, and Linda Britt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Lisa was predeceased by her husband Charles Huiett, and two nephews, Jerome Spicer and Welton Hasket, III.
