Lillian Virginia Stevens slipped away on March 9, 2018 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and returned to our Father.

She was born November 3, 1934 in Norfolk County, Virginia, now known as Chesapeake to Isiacar and Lillian Ida Bell Stevens; the third of five children.  She attended Norfolk County High School and graduated in 1953.  She continued her schooling at Norfolk State University known at the time as “Little State.”  While she was not able to graduate due to finances this began a legacy for her son, Dwayne and his daughter, Patricia who both graduated from Norfolk State with honors.  She was a loving mother and grandmother with a kind heart and she would do anything to help anyone she could.  She worked hard all her life to provide the things that her children not only needed but also many of the things they wanted.  She could be funny and cheerful and was a friend to many.

Lillian was a member of First Baptist Church, Gilmerton for many years where she sang in the choir and served on the Usher Board.

She was employed with Moseberth’s Chicken for over 55 years and was very loved by the Moseberth family, only retiring when her health began to fail.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Willie and Joseph Stevens and one sister, Mary Arnold Stevens (Arnold).  She is survived by: her daughter, Rita Stevens Jones (Slettie); sons, Dwayne T. Stevens (Patricia), Antoine L. Stevens, Terry L. Stevens; four grandchildren, Tatiana Grindle, Dwayne T. Steven, Jr., Deanna T. Stevens Leary (Kyle) and Patricia K. Stevens; one sister, Janice Stevens Gibbs (Arnold) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Our special thanks to Beverly Singleton, friend of Antoine Stevens, who took very good care of her the last three years after she was no longer able to stay at home.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church West Munden, 1541 Lyons Avenue, Chesapeake, VA  23324.  Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, VA.
