St. Lecy Dorothy Hamilton Lawrence was born on December 27, 1929, the second oldest of six siblings to Egerton C. and Virginia I. Hamilton, Kingston, Jamaica West Indies.

She received her early education at Jones Town Primary in Kingston and Teacher Jackson’s Prep School in Spanish Town.  St. Lecy received her teaching diploma at Buxton College and her diploma in Midwifery/Obstetrics at Victoria Jubilee Hospital.  She obtained her Registered Nurse diploma at the University of West Indies (UWI) and Kingston Public Hospital.  She also completed Post-Graduate Work in specialty areas.

After relocating to the states, St. Lecy continued her education at Mount Saint Vincent College in Bronx, New York.   Over a span of years from 1963 to 1992, she pursued her passion in the field of nursing at several prestigious hospitals such as UWI Hospital (Jamaica), Newark Beth Israel, Roosevelt Hospital, and Albert Einstein Hospital (New York).  She was an Operating Room Nurse with the skills of scrubbing and circulating.  St. Lecy spent the greater part of her working career at Albert Einstein from 1970 to 1992.  She was Primary Nurse in Orthopedic services and promoted to Charge Nurse of Urology where she worked until the day of her retirement.  In addition to her operating room skills, she was responsible for educating and orienting students.  St. Lecy was instrumental in the development and implementation of “clinical competency standards” for all staff levels. She performed staff scheduling, appraisals, and quality assurance activities as Head of Neuro, Pediatric, and Adult Urology services utilizing “best practices” that became a standard of excellence among top facilities.

St. Lecy, a lifelong member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ, was the second child (at age three) blessed in the Kingston Tabernacle by the late Bishop Luther Chase.  As a child she attended street meetings with her father resulting in the building of Spanish Town Tabernacle.  She served in several capacities within our religious organization over her lifetime. St. Lecy was the Sabbath School Secretary in Spanish Town. After migrating to the U.S., Mount Vernon Tabernacle NY was her place of worship.  She served as Sabbath School Superintendent and Charitable Chairman.

Life would have her relocate to Charlotte NC where she served and supported all of her Pastors.  She was Chair of the sick committee.  As her health declined, she was saddened that she was unable to attend services on a regular basis.  She received specialized care from Home Instead and Novant Presbyterian Hospital, where she remained until her transition on October 21, 2018.

St. Lecy was known by all as a fashion queen, and was very particular about her appearance and style.  She loved being around her family and friends.  She would usually offer her opinion about a subject or situation, and oftentimes she was right on point.  She had a wittiness that we all enjoyed and will miss.

Preceding St. Lecy in death were her parents, Evangelist At-Large Egerton and Mother Sarah St. Virginia Hamilton, daughter, St. Marie Antoinette Lawrence, sister, St. Ruby Page, brothers, St. Horace Hamilton and infant brother St. Enos Hamilton.

St. Lecy leaves behind to cherish her memories son, St. Dale Lawrence, grandson, St. Kori Lawrence, brother, Elder Uriah George Hamilton (St. Cassandra), sister, St. Mercedes Hamilton, brother in law, Orrett Page, special sister, St. Doris Spaulding, nieces, nephews, cousins, many Saints, friends, and special caregivers.
