Kevin Walton, beloved son of Johnnie Horace Walton, Sr., and Easter Mae Swimpson Walton, went to be with the Lord on 19 January 2020 at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Kevin is predeceased by his sister Patricia Darlene Walton and has one surviving brother, Johnnie H. Walton, Jr.. Kevin’s memorial will be held 7 February 2020, 11AM, at Corprew Funeral Home.

On 11 January 1961, Kevin was born at 45 Radford Street in Douglas Park, Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a spirited child during his youth. He attended Lakeview Elementary and Waters Junior High. At Waters Junior High, Kevin became enamored with the trumpet after seeing his older brother play, and he quickly eclipsed his brothers skill. He was the lead trumpeter at Manor High School and upon graduation, received a full scholarship to attend Tennessee State University, where he further distinguished himself as First trumpet and where he is revered. Of the many performances that tennessee State performed around the world, the Montrose Music Jazz Festival is where Kevin truly distinguished himself. While always noted for his iron jaws, high notes, and wonderful  improvisational skills, Kevin played before an entranced Swiss audience who raved at his skills. It so happened that a noted jazz artist was in attendance – Miles Davis. It was Miles who approached Kevin and gave him the moniker “Iron Jaws” and was impressed with his skills.

Kevin eventually resettled back in Portsmouth, Virginia where he married Deborah (Saunders) and had two children, Ashley and Ivory Walton, who reside in Virginia. He subsequently married Karen (Harrison) Walton, to whom he was married at his passing to Glory.

Kevin suffered a stroke in 2013 that created numerous health issues to which he finally succumbed.
