On Tuesday December 28, 2021, Joyce J. Richardson went home to be the with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on December 10, 1954, to the late William Lee, Jr. and Julia Smith Richardson in Portsmouth, VA. Joyce was raised in the Truxton community and was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System. She accepted Christ and was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist under Pastor E. T. Knight. She served several different Ministries within the church before her illness. She served in the choir, usher board, Pastors Aid, Hospitality, and Praise Dance. She had drove the van for several years as well. Joyce dedicated 15 years of employment at Advanced Auto Parts. She also worked other jobs such as T J Maxx, Montgomery Ward, and the NNSY.
Joyce was a very loving, caring, and nurturing woman. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and siblings. She was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan.
She was predeceased by her parents William Lee Richardson, Jr. and Julia Smith Richardson; her paternal grandparents-William Lee Richardson, Sr. and Mary Richardson; her maternal grandparents-Louis Cobb Smith and Maggie Williams Smith; three babies-Tianna, Ashley, and Michael; two brothers-Eric and Paul Richardson; and grandson-Thomas TJ Richardson.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memories her two daughters-Shina Richardson of Portsmouth, VA and Shantela Richardson (Michael Grimes) of Chesapeake, VA; her five grandchildren-Tianna Richardson (Roderick Coker), Jasmine Richardson, Brittany Richardson (Dexter Rodgers) and Deonte’ Richardson all of Portsmouth, VA and Ashley Gray of Atlanta, GA; nine great-grandchildren-Dontre’ Spencer Jr., TyRique Richardson, Ahmad Richardson, Demi Richardson, Dream Richardson, Kassidy Harper and Kaiser Harper, Aariyanna Coker and Dahmari Cobb; two god-children-Yolanda Lewis (Kevin) and Chevis Barnes; eight siblings-William Richardson III of Portsmouth, VA, Reta Taylor (Johnnie) of Phoenix, AZ, Lewis (Shelia) Richardson of Portsmouth, VA, Linwood (Vanessa) Richardson of Culpepper, VA, Melton Richardson, Sylvester Richardson of Portsmouth, VA., L’Kim Person of Chesapeake, VA, and Marlon (Patricia) Richardson of Hope Mills, NC; one aunt-Vivian Tolliver of Bronx, NY; one uncle- Theodore (Lola) Richardson of Louisa, VA; a special aunt-Hattie Pauline Barnes; a special niece-Ashley Griffin; a special cousin-Angela Riddick of Richmond, VA; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
