 Johnnie Edwards departed this life on March 29, 2017.  He was born on December 17, 1954 to the late Ernest Sr. and Annie Edwards of Jersey City, New Jersey.  He was educated in the Jersey City, New Jersey School System and continued his education at Tidewater Community College in Chesapeake, VA.  He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 3 of Hackensack, New Jersey.

 Johnnie was a certified master electrician for over 18 years.  He was employed with Riddick Electric Services.  He taught many the electrical trade and was always ready to share his knowledge and experiences.  His favorite quote was “Knowledge is always king, once you received it, can’t no one take it away.”

 Johnnie enjoyed life to the fullest: reading, music, traveling, landscaping, old movies and a few burnt dogs customized from his grill.

  He is preceded in death by his sister Sarah Grant, mother-in-law Josephine Robertson, father-in-law William T. Robertson, brothers-in-law Frank T. Robertson and Linell Richardson.

 Johnnie is survived by his wife Cassandra L. Edwards and six children, Nickigh of Los Angeles, CA, Shakelia of Chula Vista, CA, Johnnie K., Eric, and Donya of Jersey City, New Jersey, Zakkiyyah of Garfield, New Jersey; two sisters Maggie (Edmond) Graves, Katie Gasden of Jersey City, New Jersey; one brother Ernest (Catherine) Edwards of Norfolk, VA; three brothers-in-law Wayne (Dorothy) Robertson, Leonard Robertson of Jersey City, New Jersey, Warren (Barbara) Robertson of Hillside, New Jersey; three sisters-in-law JoAnn Richardson of Alexandria, VA, Patricia Robertson of Parlin, New Jersey, Mary (Beaufort) Epps of Chesapeake, VA; eight grandchildren Johnathan, Aaliyah, Elijah J., Johnnie, Jada, Elijah, Jaiya, Israel; a goddaughter Jamie King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, 11 am at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA  23704.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, VA.  Viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 4th from 12 Noon to 8 pm at the funeral home.
