**Facial coverings that cover the nose and mouth are required and must remain on while inside of the facilities for viewing and services

** Refrain from kissing, hugging, embracing others as your enter or leave the facilities to help reduce the spread of the virus

** If you are experiencing a cold or flu-like symptoms, please do not enter the funeral home at any time

** Chapel services are limited to 50 People, per Governor’s Executive Order #67 effective April 1, 2021

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, Jeanie Lanelle Brooks our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister went home to our Lord peacefully at her home in Suffolk, VA.  She fought the hard battle with life and has won her eternal life now.

She was born on November 4th, 1942, in Hobgood, North Carolina to Anna Estelle Staton and Oscar Dancy.  She is a proud alumna of I.C. Norcom High School class of 1960 and Norfolk State University class of 1974, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  After graduation, she worked for Ortho Pharmaceuticals and then the Department of Defense until her retirement in 2006, which afforded her the opportunity to live abroad and to travel internationally to experience many cultures.  She was dedicated and devoted to her family and friends.  All who knew her loved her quick wit and no-nonsense rebuttals. She was a strong believer in education and family, and she loved to share her love of the world with all who she met. Her smile and laughter brought joy to all around her.

Those left to cherish her memory and mourn are her husband of 47 years, John R. Brooks; son, Edward Gregory Walker of Baton Rouge, LA; daughter, Jennifer Brooks Williams of Suffolk, Va; granddaughters Shawnyece Walker, Shawntay Walker, Tenasia Knox and MeKhia Williams; grandsons John Christian Walker and Marques Williams; and 6 great grandchildren; Sister, Vivian C. Walker of Portsmouth, Va.; Nephews, Jody Walker, James Walker and Shawn Walker;  and a slew of cousins and extended family who loved and adored her.

She was preceded in death by her son Kevin Walker, mother Anna E. Staton and stepfather William “Bill” Staton.

Funeral services will be on Monday, June 14, 2021 at Corprew Funeral Home in Portsmouth, VA at 11 am.  Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, June 13, 2021 from 2 – 5 pm at the funeral home.
