Celebrating the Life and Legacy of
Mrs. Jean Eliza Banks Snipes

Jean Eliza Banks Snipes was born on January 15, 1928, in Virginia Beach, VA to
Marzella Skinner and William Skinner. On May 31, 2024, GOD in His infinite
wisdom very peacefully brought to a close, the earthly life of Jean Eliza Banks
Snipes (96 years of age). Jean was the youngest girl of eighteen siblings.

Jean met and married the love of her life, William I. Banks. From their loving
union, five children were born: Lil Jean, Janice, Kenny, Maurice and Jackie. Jean
attended New Hope Baptist Church, Chesapeake, VA under the leadership of
Reverend Charles Bowens. At the young age of 77 she married John W. Snipes
and then she joined New First Baptist Church Taylorsville.

Jean enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved her family. She was a proud mother, a
loving grandmother, great grandmother, a caring aunt and a friend to all. She
looked forward to family gatherings, playing cards, listening to music and of
course dancing. In her younger years she was very passionate about getting the
family together for family reunions. She also loved to leisurely travel throughout
the United States with her husband.

While embracing her dementia, the Matriarch of the family would grace us with
her presence and her full name “Jean Eliza Skinner Chee-Chee Banks Snipe”.
As a resident at Autumn Care of Portsmouth, she was well known by the residents
and the staff. She enjoyed participating in the activities as much as possible. She
was a real social butterfly.

She was predeceased by her first husband William I. Banks, her second husband
John W. Snipes, and two sons William Kenneth Banks and Robert Maurice Banks

Jean leaves to cherish her memories her three daughters: Jean Kari Kari (Tim),
Janice Banks (Jimmie), Jacqueline Horton (Paul); eleven grandchildren: Kim
Barnes, Troyus Barnes, Leon Battle, Kel Sharpe, Bobbie Banks Reid, Brian Joyner,
William Banks Jr., Kentiaira Wright, Krystal Yancey, Michael Stephens, Jr. and
Carlos Stephens; 19 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family and
friends.

Expressions of Gratitude

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation for the
many prayers and expressions of love, kindness and thoughtful gestures shown to
us during this time of bereavement. A special thank you goes to the medical staff
at Autumn Care of Portsmouth. God bless you all for the skilled care and very
personal attention that was given to our love one when we needed it most. Your
support was so greatly appreciated.

She is one of GOD’S ANGELS and now she can remember EVERYTHING!!
