On December 31, 2021, Janet Sharlene Jefferson departed this earth into eternal rest. Janet was born August 29, 1963, in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Charlie Jefferson and Edna Jefferson.

Janet was a loving mother of two who had strong passion for cooking, dancing and just overall enjoying all that life had to offer her. Her love of oldie but goodies would leave a stain on her entire family as they continue to listen to some of her favorites in memory of her. As the cook of the family, Janet had a natual nurturing spirit about her. You were always guaranteed a good meal that would bring you back to the memories of her mother’s cooking. You also could always guarantee a good meal that would bring you back to the memories of her mother’s cooking. You also could always count on her to pull out the grill on a warm day, lighting up the room with that forever remembered laugh of hers. She had a very close and special bond with her best- friend Barbara Hodge- Maddox, they were friends for over 40 years; She was always eager to share countless memories as well as stories about the times they had from growing up as teenagers. Janet was an LPN and was formerly employed with Greenbriar Medical Center.

 

Janet was also previously employed at Holiday house where she met two good friends (Cassandra Blackwell) (Monica) whom she loved dearly and shared multiple stories about their friendships developed while helping children in need.  Beverly manor was the nursing facility that would that open multiple doors for her and her career as an LPN of 30 years, as this is where she started her journey. While working at Beverly Manor she strengthened her long-term friendship with a very special friend (Lynette Cross) in fact Cross assisted her in the birth of her youngest son Damari Jefferson. Recently, she had reconnected with a long-time friend April Swinney it was as if they had never disconnected. Janet attended and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School where she was a well-known cheerleader, Class of 1981.

 

Janet was the life of any party and will truly be missed. Janet leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy her two sons. Travis Jefferson and Damari Jefferson; Two beautiful grandchildren, Ne ‘Kiyah Thompson and Aaliyah Rydquist; One sister, Cheryl Prince (Robert) One brother- Charles Jefferson both of Portsmouth, Virginia; two nieces, Alisha Prince and Keshara Carter; a great niece, Kayani Gray, a great nephew, Makai Gray, two aunts Edith Bell (Maurice) of Portsmouth, VA and Hallie Davis of Indianapolis, IN; predeceased by her two uncles, Arthur Johnson (Ida Mae Johnson) and Wille Baxter.  A host of family, friends, and co-workers.
