December 25, 1950 - February 24, 2018
On the morning of February 24, 2018, James K. Bynum peacefully transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home surrounded by his family.
James was born in Portsmouth, VA on December 25, 1950. He graduated from I.C. Norcom High School, Class of 1969. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He also worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and retired after 35 years of service. “Butch” as he was fondly known, then formed Bynum Transportation and was the owner for the last 18 years. Butch’s greatest joy other than his family was the love of his trucks and the Washington Redskins! Butch treated everybody that he came into contact, with respect and dignity. He was a man of integrity and was well liked by all.
He was predeceased by his father, William L. Bynum. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula Raye Bynum; wonderful mother, Shirley Patillo; three children, Kenneth, Teycia (Ryan), Keycia Bynum; brothers, Jerome (Gloria), Kevin Patillo (Nicole), Vincent and Lamar Bynum; his sister, Karen Brown (Robert); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A wake will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Corprew Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, 11 am at Tabernacle Church, 1131 Crawford Parkway, Portsmouth, VA 23704. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321.
