St. Horace Augustus Hamilton was born on October 30, 1949 the youngest of six siblings to Egerton C. and Virginia I. Hamilton, Spanish Town, Jamaica West Indies.
He received his early education at Central Branch Primary and Excelsior High School. After graduating from high school, Horace was employed by Jamaica Public Service in Kingston. Horace, affectionately referred to as Harry, relocated to Canada to pursue his education at McGill University. After living in Canada, Harry relocated to the United States to be with family in Norwalk, CT.
Harry attended Norwalk Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. For a short time, Harry worked at a bank in the Norwalk area as a Vault Attendant.
Harry was a lifelong member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ. He was a Shepherd in Spanish Town, Jamaica; Sabbath School Superintendent in Kingston, Jamaica and Mount Vernon, New York. St. Horace served faithfully in Mount Vernon until his health failed.
Most of Harry’s immediate family relocated to North Carolina in 1995 and he relocated to Charlotte, NC shortly thereafter. Harry often provided his family and friends with funny jokes and thought-provoking conversations. Singing the songs of Zion was one of his favorite past times. When family would talk with him, often times, he would sing and ask if they remembered certain songs.
As his health continued to decline, Harry was under supervised care at Long Leaf Neurological Center of Wilson, NC until his transition October 9, 2017.
Harry leaves behind to cherish his memories brother, Elder Uriah George Hamilton (St. Cassandra); two sisters, St. Lecy Lawrence and St. Mercedes Hamilton; brother in-law, Orrett Page; special sister, St. Doris Spaulding; niece St. Patricia Simms; nephew, St. Dale Lawrence, and a host of cousins, great nieces, great nephews, saints and friends.
Preceding Harry in death were his parents, Evangelist At-Large Egerton and MS St. Virginia Hamilton; sister St. Ruby Page, infant brother St. Enos Hamilton, and niece St. Marie Lawrence.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2017, 10 am at Church of God and Saints of Christ Temple Beth-El, 3927 Bridge Road, Suffolk, VA 23435. Interment to follow in Belleville Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
