Horace A. Goins, 80, of Hampton, VA, died on Friday, May 1, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Horatio Goins and his son, Marvin Goins, and his sisters Betty Johnson and Wanda Briggs.
Horace is survived by his mother Catherine Sidney of Hampton, VA; brother, Anthony Goins of Hampton, VA; step-sister, Sylvia Redding of Newport News, VA; daughter, Catherine Brent of Hampton, VA; grandsons, Devon Brent and Rodney Brent, Jr. of Hampton, VA; great grandson, Aiden Brent of Hampton, VA; nephew, John Allen, Jr (Tonja) of Camden-Wyoming, DE; great nephews, Jordan Allen and Krystjan Allen of Camden-Wyoming, DE; niece, Michelle Johnson of Richmond, VA; ex-wife, Ernestine King of Hampton, VA; and a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends.
Horace grew up in Sanford, NC where he graduated from W.B. Wicker High School. He attended North Carolina A&T State University for 1 year, served in the US Army for 4 years, and spent over 40 years working at the Newport News Shipyard. After his retirement, he spent countless hours learning and teaching others about ways to live healthier lives. A lifelong gardener, Horace eventually became a certified master gardener and opened a store in Downtown Hampton where he sold herbs, oils, books, and other holistic treatments. In addition to gardening, Horace loved to fish at Fort Monroe.
Horace spread love, optimism, and joy wherever he went. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
