Harry (“Brother”) C. Moore, Jr. of Suffolk, VA went home to be with the Lord on the morning of December 25, 2020. He was the second of three children born to Harry, Sr. and Bernetta Moore of Philadelphia, PA. He was blessed to live to be 90 years old. Harry grew up in Philadelphia, PA where he graduated from Overbrook High School. He enlisted in the Army and served for 4 years in the Korean War where he earned the Korean Service medal w/3 Bronze Stars. After Harry’s military service, he attended and graduated from the historically rich North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University where he trained to be a Civil Engineer. He loved his time at NC A&T where he met a host of lifelong friends. He attributes his time at NC A&T to changing the trajectory of his life.

Harry met the love of his life, “right across the way” at Bennett College. He and Peggy were married in Kinston, NC in 1958. From that union three children were born. Harry began his career as a Civil Engineer in Philadelphia. Later he and his family relocated to Chesapeake, VA where he retired after 32 years of service to the federal government. During his career Harry traveled throughout the world which he enjoyed immensely. After retirement, he worked for 10 years as a substitute teacher in Norfolk City Public Schools, Norfolk, VA.

Harry’s daily walk was guided by his Christian faith. He and his family held memberships at Vine Memorial Baptist Church (Philadelphia, PA) and First Baptist Church Crestwood (Chesapeake, VA). At his current church home, The Historic First Baptist Church (Norfolk, VA) he served as a tutor in the Ready Academy Christian School and as a Sunday School teacher. Dad loved family, enjoyed people, listened to music, barbecued food, embraced laughter, and cherished life. He had an avid love for “smooth riding” cars and was known as the neighbor one would “always see wiping down that car.” Harry was a dedicated husband, father, uncle, friend, neighbor, and coworker. He adored his children and treasured his beloved Peggy.

Harry is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Moore of 62 years; children, Kimberly Daniel (Michael deceased) of Bowie, MD; Harry Moore, III of Suffolk, VA; Paul Moore of Suffolk, VA; sisters, Shirley Mullen of Philadelphia, PA, and Edna May (Ernest) of Philadelphia, PA; as well as a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
