Gloria R. Walden Hardy, “Glo”, 90, passed away on November 16, 2015. Born June 28, 1925 in Holland (Suffolk), Nansemond Co., Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Squire Titus Walden and Lizzie Barnes Turner Walden.
She was a high school graduate of Nansemond County Training School in Holland, VA and a 1946 graduate of Virginia State College (now University) in Petersburg, VA. She was a former science teacher of Gretna, VA and was later employed as a postal clerk with the U. S. Postal Service in Norfolk, VA where she retired in 1989 after 20 years of service.
Gloria was a former member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Holland, VA and later became a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Hardy, Sr., daughter, Linda D. Perry, two sons, John M. Hardy, Jr. and Anthony J. Hardy, one sister, Goldie G. Wilson and two brothers, Walter T. Walden and Melton G. Walden.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Gloria F. Hardy and Melvina H. Snead both of Portsmouth; brother, Rev. Wilbur L. Walden, one sister-in-law, Doris F. Walden both of Suffolk; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015, 11 am at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 3310 Deep Creek Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23702. Dr. E.T. Knight, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
