Gerald Joseph Richardson was born on July 13, 1945 in Port Arthur, Texas. He was the eldest of seven. He accepted Christ as his savior at an early age, and honored Christ in a Catholic school for a period of time. Gerald was called to be with Jesus on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Gerald was a graduate of Sacred Heart School in Port Arthur, Texas. He attended Lamar State College of Port Arthur, and later furthered his education when he enlisted in the United States Navy where he earned a National Defense Medal. He pursued training as a Radio Operator-Air Transat Communication/Electrical Specialist. Gerald moved from active duty to the U. S. Naval Reserve for several years.
Gerald also worked for various companies, such as New Orleans International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, and Freeport-McMoRan, an offshore mining company. He seemed to leave a job and go right out and get another lucrative gig right away; his training and skills spoke for him. Gerald’s work as an Instrumentation and Controls Field Engineer took him places most people only dream of; his path afforded him opportunities abroad, places like Greenland, Egypt, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and various cities in Africa, specifically Accra, Ghana where he settled for more than four to five occasions for several years. The path of life took Gerald to Norfolk, Virginia, and while in the Navy he met and married Thelma Roberts and from their marriage was born Monica Michelle Richardson-Reid and Jason Jeffery Richardson.
Gerald loved cooking and eating Cajun/Creole cuisine. His specialty was homemade Gumbo. He had a passion for traveling, Gospel, Jazz, and good old R&B music, art, and taking pictures of life’s beauty! In his long vibrant life, he loved to be around his family and close friends, in fact he was usually the life of the party! Gerald had an extraordinarily generous heart and was often referred to as “G Money” or “G”. Proceeded in Death by Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Louins Richardson and mother, Mary Prevost-Richardson-Collins; his siblings were Geraldine Richardson-Joseph, John Richardson, William “Billy” Robinson, and Louins Jr. Richardson. UF Survived by Gerald is survived by his sister, Diane (Curley) Landry and brother, Royd (Barbara) Richardson. Gerald leaves to mourn 2 children: Monica and Jason (Nikita), 6 grandchildren: Tyrell (Angel), Emani, Jashaun, Jason Jr., Amari, and Ayonna, and 3 great grandchildren: Khloe, Marley, and Jace, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Honorable Mentions Special acknowledgements to his first cousin, Patricia Briscoe, his niece, Monica Richardson, and brother-n-law, Todd Sanderson.
