George B. Rasberry, Jr. was born on December 3, 1933 to George and Mary Rasberry in Norfolk, Virginia. The eldest of five children, George was loved by his family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
George attended Booker T. Washington High School and graduated in 1952. George remained close with his high school classmates and over the years, attended reunions and went on various trips with his lifelong friends.
George attended Norfolk State where he was a member of the football team. He left Norfolk State to join the service, but later returned and finished in 1982. George was a master sergeant in the United States Army and was in active and reserve duty for 37 years. He was a skilled aircraft electrician and engineering technician at Norfolk Naval Air Station for 34 years.
George never met a stranger and was a friend to many. He was a Mason for over 30 years and a member of Fantomes Club, Inc. for 30 years. He was also a member of Club De Porres, Inc. for over 20 years. George was a member of several bridge clubs and military organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Estelle Lee. George leaves a legacy of love for his family to his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline; his two sons George III and Larry (Elizabeth); brothers Victor and Tillman Rasberry (Lula); sister Argreta Russell; two grandsons George Rasberry IV and Brice Rasberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A wake will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018, 6 pm at Corprew Funeral Home, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23704. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, 12 Noon at First United Presbyterian Church, 745 E 29th Street, Norfolk, VA 23504. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA.
