Freddie Lee Rodgers, Sr., “Fred,” 92, departed this life on August 31, 2016. He was born in Chesapeake (Deep Creek), VA to the late Fred Rodgers and Eunice Rodgers Revell. He retired from civil service after 34 years of service and later retired as a custodian from Portsmouth Public Schools.
Freddie was a member of St. John Baptist Church, and the American Legion – Post 190. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Rodgers; three daughters, Reginia Blowe, Jacqueline Worrell, Gloria Rodgers; one son, Richard Rodgers, and one brother, James Rodgers.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Faye Williams and Dana Jones; four sons, Freddie Rodgers, Jr., Horace Rodgers, Daryl Rodgers, and Kenneth Rodgers; 36 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; one sister, Denice Pickens; other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held on Monday, September 5, 2016 from 12 Noon to 8 pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, 11 am at New First Baptist Church Taylorsville. Rev. James Wynn will eulogize. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
