On Monday, July 3, 2017, Francis Lathan McDonald answered the call of the Lord to return home.  Francis was born on April 15, 1927 to Mary Jane Alexander and Kenneth Allen McDonald.

 The Norfolk County native, graduated from Providence High School in 1945.  He entered the United States Army in November of that year and was discharged in August of 1947.  After his military service, he attended North Carolina (A&T) Agricultural & Technological State College, where he graduated in 1954.  Francis worked for the Department of the Navy Supply Center for over three decades, retiring after 32 years of service.

 Francis married Fannie Mae James on June 28, 1960.  Together Francis and Fannie had two daughters, Susan Anita McDonald and Frances Lisa McDonald.

 Francis was a faithful member of the congregation of Lee’s Chapel AME Church for the majority of his life.  He served on the trustee board for over forty years.  He also ministered as an usher and wherever needed.  Francis was affectionately known by many as “Uncle Frank.”

 Francis leaves to mourn his home going his sister, Tama Johnson; his daughters, Susan M. Givens and Frances Lisa McDonald; his son-in-law, Don Givens; nieces and nephews with whom he had a very special and treasured relationship, as well as cousins and friends.

 This joyous, helpful and always smiling man joins his wife, Fannie McDonald; brothers, Edward McDonald, Seth McDonald, Clifton McDonald, Allen McDonald, Raymond McDonald, and Vernon McDonald; sisters, Alberta McDonald, Thelma Wilkes, and Maidie Blount in the great cloud of witness.  He will be greatly missed and forever loved.

 Viewing will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 12 Noon to 6 pm at Corprew Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017, 11 am at Lee’s Chapel AME Church, 1036 Bells Mill Road, Chesapeake, VA  23322.  Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, 1101 Campostella Road, Chesapeake, VA  23320.
