¨For I am now ready to be offered
and the time of my departure is now at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.”
~ II Timothy 4:6-7
On Sunday, October 22, 2023, our beloved Frances “Priscilla” Dawsey peacefully departed this earthly life after a strenuous battle with cancer.
Frances, also affectionately known as Priscilla or “Scilla” to her family and close friends, was born on December 2, 1956 in Farmville, VA to McNaugh Sr. and Pattie Omega Trent. She was born at the Wiley homeplace whereas as a child, she spent many summers with her grandparents. While Priscilla did not belong to a church, she was introduced to Christ at an early age and believed on the Lord for all things.
Growing up, Priscilla loved to listen to music and dance. It was not unusual to hear the melodic sounds of Al Green singing about Love and Happiness or Let’s Stay Together filling the house when she was at home. Her love of music and natural rhythm led her to join the CHS drill team at Cumberland High School. As she transitioned into young adulthood, Priscilla moved to the Richmond/Bon Air area where she met Elvis Dawsey. She moved to Portsmouth, Virginia and they were married on December 31, 1985. To this union, came two beautiful daughters, Lakeisha and Felicia.
Anyone who knew Frances knew about her love for her family and her feisty, protective personality. While she loved jewelry, and you could not pry her pocketbook away from her … she loved her family even more. If you knew her, you knew about her uncanny ability to talk “trash” and her “unfiltered” comments to make you laugh and smile … all said in love because if she loved you, you knew it. When parting, Priscilla didn’t say “bye” she said “Luv You!”
Priscilla is preceded in death by her father, McNaugh Sr. and her mother, Pattie Omega Trent; her infant brother, Calvin and sister, Gloria as well as her older brother, McNaugh Jr.
Priscilla leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: Her husband, Elvis Dawsey of Portsmouth, VA; two daughters, Lakeisha Dawsey and Felicia Trent of Portsmouth, VA; four grandchildren, Malique Trent, Quanisha Trent, Veto Butts, and Kevin Street of Portsmouth, VA; seven great-grandchildren, Jah’Ziah, London, Landon, JoJo, Christian, Cameron, Tyla ; ten siblings, Carole O.
