Florence E. Sawyer, 84, departed this life on August 3, 2016. She was born on September 12, 1931 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Joseph H. Sr. and Ethel Copeland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence P. Sawyer Sr. and a daughter, Cecilia Sawyer.
She leaves to cherish her memories: eight daughters, Valarie Sawyer of Pennsylvania, Viola Bell, Michelle Sawyer, Penny Wilson all of Chesapeake, Iris Helms of Virginia Beach, Julie Lloyd, Valma Mims both of Suffolk and Theresa Cox-Ford of Portsmouth; two sons, Lawrence Sawyer Jr. of Chesapeake and Lindwood Sawyer of Portsmouth; one brother; three sisters; 59 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, 11 am at Zion Bethel United Church of Christ, 1617 Des Moines Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23704. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be on Tuesday, August 9th from 12 Noon to 8 pm and the family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm.
