Evelyn Ann Allen Baum who was fondly referred to as “Little Sister” passed away with family by her side early morning on July 26, 2018, at the age of 62 years old in Marietta, GA. Evelyn was born to Anneva McLaurin Eaton and Melvin Eaton on December 19, 1955, in the city of Portsmouth, Va. She was the only daughter out of a party of 6 brothers and was raised in the Cavalier Manor neighborhood of Portsmouth. Evelyn graduated from Manor High School in Portsmouth in 1974. She furthered her education and would later seek multiple college degrees through Strayer University while maintaining employment at Cox Communications where she remained for over 3 decades. Her most recent position held at Cox was as an Analyst. During her tenure with Cox, she relocated to the Greater Atlanta area. Evelyn’s loving, down to earth, and kind nature made her beloved among those who were fortunate enough to know her. She was a caring daughter and sister, trusting confidante and companion, and dedicated mother. This is just a brief description of Evelyn as she was so much more. She embodied the faith she had. As Evelyn had self-proclaimed, she was fulfilled. She was complete. She reflected this in how she lived. She adored family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and special niece Tomoya Thomas whom she lovingly referred to as “Sweetie”. She enjoyed family gatherings and outings especially when all her grandchildren were included. She loved life and she gave selflessly to those she loved. Her faith guided her in how she loved. Evelyn’s legacy will carry on through her children and their brethren. She will be missed, remembered and celebrated by her surviving family members and friends. She is preceded in death by parents, Anneva and Melvin Eaton and brother, Melvin “Poochie” Eaton Jr., one maternal aunt, and one maternal uncle.
She is survived by three sons, Tommie J Allen Jr., Jeffrey J Allen, and Roemello Baum five brothers which include, Ronald Eaton, Michael Eaton, Ricky Eaton, Tony Eaton, and Eugene Eaton, 14 grandchildren, two maternal aunts, one maternal uncle, former spouses Tommie J Allen Sr. and Anthony Baum, respectively and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Viewing will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 12 noon to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, 11 am at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, Va 23704. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321.
