Surrounded by family, Ethel Mae Walker received her call from God on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Ethel Mae Walker was born to the late Sylvester Walker and Helen (Britt) Walker Wooten on October 10, 1938, in Portsmouth, VA.
She was preceded in death by three sisters (Marion Willingham, Joan Willie, Vera Brittle), one brother Sylvester Walker, and one son, Stanley Walker.
Ethel was educated in Portsmouth Public Schools, where she attended I.C. Norcom High School. She was a skilled hospitality worker for Portsmouth General Hospital and the Portsmouth Drydock Club for many years. She was also a member of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, where she attended services and served on the Usher Board until her health began to fail her.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories three daughters: Corethia “Candy” (Charlie), Theresa, and Valerie Walker (Arthur), and one son, Reginald “Reggie” (Ann) Walker. Ethel also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a very dear cousin Mattie “Sister” Riddick (Herbert), special friends, Mildred Garrett and Sandra Williams, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ethel loved her family, and she will be greatly missed.
