Ellwood Ralph Reed departed this life on June 24, 2018. He was born October 18, 1938 in Richmond, VA to Mr. Allen Stanley Reed, Sr. and Lucille Guy Reed. He moved to Atlantic City, NJ in 1954 and attended Atlantic City High School.
As an adult he served his country by joining the United States Marine Corp in 1956. A true hero, he served as special police in Atlantic City. After completing his service, he worked out of his local 415 for several years and met and married his soulmate Dorothy Johnson. They moved to Detroit, MI in 1976, where he worked for Ford Motor Company for ten years. In 1986, he transferred to Norfolk, VA, where he was a very well-respected employee and retired after 31 years of dedicated service.
Ellwood R. Reed loved life and loved his family, and to know him was to love him as well. He was a loyal man eager to help anyone in need and left his handprint of love on the lives of everyone who met him no matter how brief the encounter.
He loved to travel and experience the beauty of the world with his beautiful wife. The two of them enjoyed many different cultures and countries together. They raised three wonderful children together, who were truly his pride and joy and the happiness that sparked the twinkle in his eye.
He will join in heaven his parents, son Andradus Reed, brother Stewart Reed and sisters Jerline Reed and Shirley Nickerson.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Reed; his sons Ellwood Reed Jr. of Egg Harbour City, NJ, Rodney Reed and wife Anna Liza of San Pablo, CA, Derek Reed and wife Stacie of Pensacola, FL; three daughters Ellen Reed of Pleasantville, NJ, Sonia Grasty and husband John of Pleasantville, NJ and Ramona Johnson of Portsmouth, VA; three brothers, Allen Reed Jr. of Egg Harbour Township, NJ, Delbert Reed and wife Iris of Egg Harbour Township, NJ, Robert Reed and wife Lavonda of San Pedro, CA; sister Doris Boasmond and husband Gilbert, Kay Frances Rolls and Ernestine Reed all from Atlantic City, NJ, Deloris Woodruff of Besimer, NC, Paula Williams and husband Dan of Hercules, CA, Margie Goods and husband Ronald of Riverside, CA; one uncle; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018, 12 noon at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23704. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, 3920 Airline Blvd. Chesapeake, VA 23321.
