Dorothy B. Harrison
October 9, 1935 -April 25, 2023
Dorothy Baker Harrison, of Portsmouth, Virginia, peacefully transitioned on Tuesday,
April 25, 2023, at 12:55 p.m. One of eleven children, Dorothy was the daughter of the
late Clement and Theresa Baker. She was raised in Norfolk, Virginia and educated in
Norfolk Public Schools, a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of
1955. Dorothy was employed with Portsmouth Public Schools as a cashier and served
as an assistant manager for Maryview Hospital cafeteria.
Dorothy B. Harrison was a member of St. John Baptist Church where she faithfully
served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served as president of
Douglass Park Elementary PTA for numerous years.
Dorothy B. Harrison, affectionately known as “Dot” was a family-oriented mother who
took pride in nurturing and providing for her family. Her wisdom and guidance provided
the foundation for her family and loved ones. She stressed the importance of education
to her children and grandchildren. Her family has come to appreciate the value and
worth of her legacy.
Dorothy B. Harrison was predeceased by her husband, Robert G. Harrison Sr. and
daughter, Genita M. Jackson. (Felix Sr.) Three sisters predeceased her, Geneve
Jordan, Shirley B. Hunter, Iris Baker and four brothers, Prince Albert Baker, Pastor
Leonard Baker, Stephen Baker, and Clement Eugene Baker.
She is survived by her sister, Magline D. Baker, daughters Linda Harrison Washington,
Robin M. Harrison and son Robert G. Harrison Jr. (Erica): eight grandchildren Felix Jr.,
Derrick, Monica, Nicholas, Cameron, Marcus, Justin, and Gabrielle, and one great
grandson Isaac Jr.: nieces
