Dorothy B. Hinton passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. She earned a master’s degree at Hampton Institute and was a retired educator with 31 years of service. Her many accomplishments included being voted
Teacher of the Year at her school and publishing a book. Dorothy enjoyed reading, traveling, and volunteering as a tutor in the LEC program at the Deep Creek campus of New Life Church.
Dorothy was born to the late William and Pennie Burden and was the wife of the late Arthur Hinton. She is preceded in death by 12 siblings: Mable Burden, Flossie Burden, Martha B. Jackson, Robert Burden, Thelonius Burden, Nannie B. Boyd, Margie B. Hightower, Orlando Burden, Wilhelmina Randolph, Velma B. Parks, William Burden and Joe W. Burden. She is survived by one son: Roderick J. Hinton and one stepdaughter: Sharon Stewart of Washington D. along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
On Saturday, April 29, a graveside prayer will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake at 10 a.m. and a memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at New Life Church, Chesapeake.
