Cynthia Rose Jones “Sheneedle”, 69, passed away on March 06, 2021 in Portsmouth, Virginia with her family by her side. Cynthia was born on January 08, 1952 in Portsmouth, Virginia the fifth of ten children blessed to Floella Davidson Jackson and Reginald Jackson.
At the age of 16 sister Jones was baptized as one of Jehovah’s witnesses in 1968. Serving her God Jehovah was the joy of her life and she expressed her deep love and gratitude to Jehovah by doing her best to live each day of her life making him smile and hoping to receive his nod of approval. Sister Jones was a devoted wife to Joe Herbert Jones Jr. They were married for twenty years.
Sister Jones had a wonderful sense of humor and laughter was a reason why she had such a vibrant spirit and a very happy temperament. A great deal of her laughter was with her two surviving sisters, Kolotto Maddrey and Dewillsee Parsons, and her surviving brother Reginald Jackson Jr. Another example of sister Jones’ fun personality was that she adored spending time with her friends in her congregation as well as spending time with her family.
Sister Jones is survived by four children whom she deeply and dearly loved. Jennifer Atkins, of Newport News, Virginia, Shavonya Jones, Joe Herbert Jones III, Vincent Cornelius Jones of Portsmouth, Virginia. Two sisters Kolotto “Karlotta” Maddrey (husband Bernard) of Portsmouth, Virginia, Dewillsee Parsons of Suffolk, Virginia; one brother Reginald Jackson, Jr. (wife Beverly) of Falls Church, Virginia. A host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by Joe Herbert Jones Jr, Husband, Floella Jackson Mother, Reginald Jackson, Father, Daniel, “Bill”, Timothy, Glen and Vincent, brothers. Vanessa, sister, nephew Glenn Riddick and Arianna Jones, granddaughter.
She graduated I.C. Norcom High School in 1971. Sister Cynthia was sole proprietor and licensed nail technician, she was an employee of General Electric Corp and the Verbatum company. She loved to cook, especially on the grill. Cynthia was an excellent cook! She was assigned to work with the meal preparation crew with the local Regional Building Committee. She helped to prepare many hearty meals for the hungry Kingdom Hall Construction volunteers. She was affectionately referred to as the “fruit lady” by the construction crews because they knew that
she would regularly bring fresh fruit for all to enjoy. And everyone just loved her home-made Cheesecake!
She also had many other talents like creating Floral arrangements and Macramé. She was mesmerized at seeing the planet Saturn for the very first time as she looked through the lens of a telescope. She was totally astounded at Saturn’s beautiful bright yellow glow and its perfect rings “Jehovah’s creation!” she said. Many times, she spoke about the earth, our solar system, and our universe as she gave praises to her grand creator Jehovah God.
Cynthia was honored to be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Cynthia volunteered as a pioneer, for many years. She would travel with the friends to work un-assigned and remote territories. And despite her illness, she would auxiliary pioneer while serving faithfully until the end. She loved to talk about her God, Jehovah. She spoke to all who would listen, about her loving relationship with her heavenly Father.
Cynthia believed in the resurrection hope. She knew that in her years of illness that Jehovah was her strong hold and that if she stayed faithful to the end, He would remember her. She never forgot her mother’s appreciation and love for Jehovah God. Cynthia passed that appreciation and love for Jehovah God to her children. Cynthia was immensely proud of her spiritual family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. As her health declined, she often said to family and friends “I’m enduring, by the love of Jehovah.”
Sister Jones is extremely loved and missed but, we are confident that she will not have long to sleep. She is just taking a nap.
