Charles A. Jefferson, Jr., 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather went to be with the Lord March 25, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Charles and Alice Jefferson on May 12, 1936 in Montclair, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Melinda, his daughters Geraldine Hicks, and Faith Jefferson, his sons David Fields, Timothy Fields, Charles A. Jefferson, III., Gary Fields and Darryl Fields. His grandchildren, Tonya Williams, Timothy Fields, Jr., Kimberly Fields, Dymyus Etheridge, Gwendolyn Wiggins, Krystle Puryear, Wilroy Smith, Jr., Tameca Beial, David Fields, Jr., Terrell Fields, Travis Stevenson, Monae Stevenson and Jessica McGee. As well as, many loving great-grand children.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Smith, and grandson, Gary Fields.

 

Affectionately called Jeff by his friends, he enlisted in the Navy in 1955. After 20 years of faithful and honorable service, AW2 Jefferson retired on the 4th day August 1974 as an Aviation Anti-Warfare Operator at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland.    He later worked at the Norfolk Naval Air Station as an airplane electrician and retired on the 30th day of September, 1995 concluding 21 years 4 months of Civil Service. On August 28, 1995, Jeff received a Career Service Award signed by the Secretary of the Navy for 40 years of faithful service to the Navy and to the Government of the United States. He joined New First Baptist Church of Taylorsville, along with his wife and 8 children in the mid 1970’s. He was a Master Mason with Washington Lodge #323 and received on the 7th day of August 1985, a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding and dedicated service to the Lodge. 

 

Jeff was a man of few words but a source of strength to his family.  He was truly the Patriarch by always being patient, kind, loving and dependable.  He was genuinely a man of substance who will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.

 

A private funeral will be held at New First Baptist Church Taylorsville on Monday March 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.  A public memorial will be held at a later date.
