With profound sadness, the family of Brenda Ann Harris announces her passing. Born on February 14, 1950, in Cameron, North Carolina, Brenda lived a life filled with love and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

A graduate of Maury High School in 1968, Brenda was a lifelong learner who believed in the power of education and perseverance. She dedicated over 20 years of her professional life to Sentara Nursing Home in Portsmouth, Virginia, where her compassion and care touched countless lives. Her demeanor and tireless work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues, residents, and their families.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, George E. Thompson and Thelma B. Thompson, as well as her loving sisters Joyce Carter and Donna Daniels, and her brothers David and Gary Thompson. While she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and kindness will forever endure.

Brenda leaves behind a devoted family to cherish her memory: her three sons, James Harris, Christopher Harris, and Jermaine Harris (Ariel), all of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her pride and joy were her fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and celebrated. She was a devoted matriarch who brought the family together with her warmth, wisdom, and love.

Brenda’s surviving siblings include her brothers Robert Thompson of Cameron, NC  George Thompson of Silver Springs, MD, and Donald Thompson of Norfolk, VA,  and her sister Dorthelia Thompson also from Norfolk, VA. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who became family over the years.

Those who knew Brenda remember her as a woman of immense strength, and boundless compassion. She loved unconditionally, and her nurturing spirit made everyone feel seen and valued. Whether offering sage advice, preparing a meal with love, or simply listening with her whole heart, Brenda made an indelible impact on everyone she met.

Her favorite moments were spent surrounded by her family, celebrating life’s milestones and simple joys. She loved making people laugh, offering wisdom to younger generations, and embracing each moment with gratitude.

Brenda’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her life serves as a testament to love, kindness, and dedication. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched.
