COVID19 REGULATIONS FOR ATTENDING VIEWING AND CHAPEL SERVICES AT CORPREW FUNERAL HOME
Due to the recent increase in COVID19 cases, the governor of Virginia has established guidelines to reduce the spread of this pandemic virus. In an effort to keep our families, staff and facilities safe we are asking that all visitors comply with the following directives:
** Be subject to temperature checks, hand sanitation and social distancing of nothing less than 6 feet within the facility
**Facial coverings that cover the nose and mouth are required and must remain on while inside of the facilities for viewing and services
** Refrain from kissing, hugging, embracing others as your enter or leave the facilities to help reduce the spread of the virus
** If you are experiencing a cold or flu-like symptoms, please do not enter the funeral home at any time
** Chapel services are limited to 50 People, per Governor’s Executive Order #67 effective April 1, 2021
** During viewing hours, visitors may enter 10 at a time through a walk through process of viewing the deceased without lingering or having a large gathering

The God of Wisdom reached into our midst and called our beloved Bernice Arnetta Pearson Vaughan to eternal rest in His Heavenly Kingdom on Monday, May 31, 2021 at the Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.
Born in Portsmouth, VA on July 15, 1921 to the late Peter Vernon Pearson and Elizabeth Caladith Bracy Pearson, Bernice was the fifth of thirteen children of this blessed union. She was affectionately called “mom”, “grand mom”, and “Aunt Bernice” by family and friends Bernice graduated Valedictorian from I. C. Norcom High located in Portsmouth, VA. She, later, attended Little State (Norfolk State University) for two years. Soon, after, Bernice became a seamstress in Portsmouth and VA Beach, VA.
Bernice and Preston were united in holy matrimony under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. Harvey N. Johnson, Sr. at Ebenezer Baptist Church on December 31, 1941. To this union were born, Preston Douglas Jr., Cecil R., Dwight, and Trammel.
Bernice accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 10 on September 1931 and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was actively involved as a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher until her health began to fail.
Bernice’s life’s work was being a missionary on the foreign field for over thirty-five years. After attending a meeting held by Ruth Robinson, she and Brenda Lawrence traveled to Haiti in 1976 to spread the gospel. Bernice (55 yrs. old), and Brenda (26 yrs. old), planned lessons, donated clothes, slept on floors, and climbed mountains to help build schools.
Bernice leaves to cherish her memory: a son, Preston, Jr.; twelve grandchildren, Camye Allen (Harvey), Damali, Kamau (Yolanda), Michael, Kyle, Cynthia, Carlton, Christopher, Arnetta, Lemayne, Fatima, Cheryl, Lawrence and Vermell, and fourteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also, leaves to cherish a first cousin, Bertha Mae Williams and a god daughter, Andrea Bernice Pearson.
In addition, to her parents, Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Preston, three sons, Cecil, Dwight and Trammel; twelve siblings, Peter Jr., Milton Howard, Nathaniel Solomon, Dorothy Louise, Melvin Leon, Winston Ruton, Gloria Hortense, Norwood Eugene, Phillip, Fleming Jeremiah, Earl Gilbert and Maud Eloise.
Bernice enjoyed helping people, reading and walking. There were many times when she would walk from her house in Brighton to an appointment. She also walked in Relay for Life to support a niece and a sisterin-law. Her favorite ice cream was lemon custard, and her favorite song was “Lord, prepare me to be a Sanctuary Pure and Holy, tried and true”.
