He was born on August 3, 1940, in Portsmouth, VA, to the late Clarence and Martha Brown at their home on 830 London Street. Alton graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School in Portsmouth, VA, in 1958.

Alton shared a beautiful life with the love of his life, Alice Brown. Brown Jr. (deceased), Zachary Brown (Angela) Retired Staff Sergeant US Marine Corp, Jacksonville, N.C., and Hiawatha Brown, Portsmouth, VA.

He served as a deacon and volunteered hundreds of hours at Warriors for Jesus Christ Church over a span of 14 years, demonstrating his commitment and faithfulness. He then devoted 17 years to Springs of Living Water Church of Restoration, where he served as a member, a Deacon and a Elder, contributing both spiritually and through community efforts.

Alton served one tour of duty in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on October 29, 1965. He retired from Kitchen Bazaar, as a Stock Manager. Even in retirement, he remained active, working at places such as the Museum Company, Robert J. Fuller Transitional House and Harris Teeter. Alton had a passion for watching old Western movies, attending church, serving others, studying the Scriptures, acting in church plays, repairing televisions, baking sweet potato pies, cheering for the Washington Redskins (now known as the Commanders), and playing basketball in his younger days. He had a genuine heart for people and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Alton was predeceased by his wife Alice Brown; son Alton F. Brown, Jr.; parents Clarence and Martha Brown; two sisters, Faustine Brown and Virgie Bishop; two brothers Milton Brown and Lemuel Brown; one sister-in-law Jeanette.
